Why we need your photos

Festive Portrait uses the photographs you upload to understand what the people in your family look like and create the personalised Christmas portrait you selected.

That's their purpose.

What happens when you upload a photo

Your photographs are securely transferred to the services we use to store and process your order.

They may be processed by image-generation technology to create your portrait and may be reviewed by our team for quality control before your order is printed.

We only use your photographs as reasonably necessary to create, review, fulfil and support your order.

What we don't do

• We do not sell your family photographs.
• We do not provide your photographs to advertisers.
• We do not post your photographs or portrait publicly without your permission.
• We do not use customer photographs to build a public image library or create marketing material unless the customer has separately agreed to it.
• Festive Portrait does not train its own AI model using customer photographs.

How AI is used

Festive Portrait uses image-generation technology to transform your photographs into the Christmas setting you choose.

Your photograph provides visual reference for characteristics such as facial appearance, hair and other identifying features. The AI then creates a new image placing those people into the selected scene.

The result is an artistic recreation.

It isn't a photograph of an event that actually happened, and AI can occasionally introduce small differences or unexpected details.

We review finished portraits before print production, but no AI-generated portrait can be guaranteed to reproduce every detail of a source photograph perfectly.

Our AI providers

We use third-party technology providers to perform some of the image processing required to create your portrait.

Those providers receive only the information necessary to perform that service and are not given permission by Festive Portrait to use your family photographs for advertising.

How long we keep your photos

Abandoned uploads are deleted within 7 days.

For completed orders, uploaded photographs and finished portraits are retained for up to 30 days after your estimated delivery date so we can resolve printing, delivery or reprint issues. After that period, they are scheduled for deletion from our active systems.

Limited copies may remain temporarily in encrypted system backups before those backups cycle out.

Order information that we are legally required to retain, such as transaction records, may be kept for longer, but it does not need to include your uploaded source photographs.

Asking us to delete your photos

You can request deletion of your uploaded photographs or generated portrait by emailing hello@festiveportrait.com from the email address used for your order.

If your order is still being created, deleting your photographs may prevent us from completing it.

Once your cards have entered production, deleting the digital files will not affect physical copies that have already been printed or dispatched.

Photos containing children

Family Christmas portraits often include children.

A photograph containing a child may only be uploaded by the child's parent or legal guardian, or by someone who has their permission.

Festive Portrait is designed for adults and is not intended to collect photographs directly from children.

Photos of other people

Please only upload photographs you have the right to use.

Everyone included should reasonably expect and agree that their image will be used to create the family portrait.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect uploaded photographs while they are stored and processed.

Like every online service, we cannot promise that any digital system is completely immune from security incidents, but access to customer photographs is restricted to what is reasonably required to operate the service.
